Lomilomi is known the world over as a soft, soothing Hawaiian style massage with signature long strokes utilizing the forearms. Under this generic term lomilomi there can be found unique styles or lineages of teachers particular to a specific Hawaiian island or even one family. The particular style of lomilomi featured on this website will be spelled with an “R” to signify the older, more ancient pronunciation and spiritual connotation inherent in the teachings of Kahu Abraham Kawai’i as currently taught at Na Pua ‘Olohe under the auspices of his wife and chief student Ho’okahi Ho’ulu.
Kahu Abraham was a master of many kahuna arts, and Romilomi or kahuna bodywork was only one of the many vehicles he used to guide individuals to greater self growth, personal understanding, family cohesion, health, wealth and motion. As of 2007 there were fewer than 5 students in the world who had been granted permission by Na Pua ‘Olohe to teach the kahuna bodywork with Kahu Abraham’s approval.
Ed Stumpf, LMAT, LAc., RN, Reiki Master, and currently a senior student at Na Pua Olohe, was granted permission to teach Romilomi in 2004. For the moment he is focused on teaching in Japan and at his home on Kauai, Mohala Ke Ola.
